Tech Toys under the Tree
Christmas 2006 brought a few new tech toys into the Word of Tech Household.
A new pair of Sony Studio Monitor headphones will allow Kath’s hubby to listen to his iPod on the bus without having to crank up the volume to drown out the cacaphony of commuting noise pollution.
A Motorola two-way radio system gives Kath the ability to chat with said hubby while he’s at the park pushing a swing - a quick reminder to pick up the milk without having to use the cell phone. This is particularly useful since the cell coverage in our area is not very good. We had a blast last summer on holiday in Quebec using borrowed two-way radios to keep in touch with the other car. The brothers got to trade barbs about who had the correct directions to the cabin while the sisters-in-law commiserated on not having married someone who knew where he was going.
Several sets of DVDs made it under the tree including Roswell seasons 1 and 2 (the 3rd season, just like the sequels to Highlander, being best forgotten), Sports Night (I’m an Aaron Sorkin junkie, what can I say?) and Rome (about which I know nothing, but darn if HBO doesn’t have a great track record with these things).
For l’enfant, we had a Fisher-Price Little People dollhouse which required batteries so that the kitten, if pressed, will meow. Normally I find the sounds of children’s toys to be at a decibel a tad on the loud side, but this kitten is either very shy or not well connected to an amplifier. I’ve found that duct tape over the speaker does wonders for ear drum impairing toys, I’m not sure what to do with one that isn’t loud enough.
All other gifts were of the low tech variety, such as books and the ever-favourite Christmas socks! Mind you, these socks were pretty special - aloe infused and oh-so-comfy for curling up with a new DVD.
